Two-strand universal cold rolling mill 2-40Б is intended for cold rolling of high quality tubes from steels, non ferrous metals and alloys with maximum strength in initial state up to 800 MPa.
The mill 2-40Б has a working stand with a movable power housing and two pairs of working rolls with vertical rolling strands. The mill has butt end load of a billet fed into a deformation zone by its external surface with the help of a pusher. The billet feeding is performed in the extreme back position of the stand and its turn – in the extreme forward position. 
The mill runs nonstop even when new billets are loaded on the rolling axis and when finished tubes are cut to length. Balancing of force moments on the crank shaft of a drive mechanism leads to balance of inertial force of the working stand moving reciprocatingly. The drive mechanism of the mill is mounted after the working stand and is moved by a direct-current motor via a double-reduction right-angle reduction gear unit. A feeding device has a tube clamp moving reciprocatingly per each double stroke of the stand. Tube, billet and mandrel bar turn is performed by front and intermediate chucks.
The mill has vertical working rolls arrangement. Working rolls changing is performed by pairs. Passes changing is performed out of the mill. The mill 2-40Б is equipped with modern automation facilities, monitors and hydraulic and lubricating devices.

The mill is fully automatic. Automation systems are made by "Siemens" (Germany) and "ABB" (Sweden).
Hydro-lubricating equipment is made by "HYDAC", "Rexroth" (Germany), "YUKEN" (Japan).
Lubricating-cooling liquid "Blasoform" (BEX 220) is made by "Blaser Swiss-lube". Annual quantity – about 3000 l.
Service stuff
The mill 2-40Б is automated. It is operated by one operator.
Mill readjustment and changing of passes and other removable processing equipment are performed by two operators. Operator's working area is the whole mill site.
The mill is operated from the main control panel mounted near the working stand.
